Pledge by Biden: US president talks to Saudi King Salman surrounded by raising Yemeni rebel attacks on the Gulf kingdom.

Pledge by Biden has asserted the United States’ obligation to support Saudi Arabia against attacks by Yemen’s Houthi rebels. The White House said as the US president talked with Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

On Wednesday a call came as the Houthis have intensified whirring and missile attacks against Saudi Arabia. It has begun by directly targeting the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Riyadh’s key ally in the region.

The president emphasized the US commitment to keep up Saudi Arabia in the defense of its people and territory from these attacks. The White House said that they also gave full support for UN-led efforts to end the war in Yemen.

A Saudi-led and US-backed coalition interceded in Yemen in 2015 to beat back the Yemeni rebels. The one who had taken over most of the country, as well as the capital, Sanaa. Their motive was to restore the Gulf-backed government of President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.

The war has led Yemen to the verge of famine. It sparked what the United Nations has said is the worst humanitarian crisis in the world.

The coalition indicts the agitators of being proxies of Iran which is a charge of both the Houthis and Tehran reject.  The Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia are described as Iranian-enabled by the White House on Wednesday.

On January 17 three people were killed in Abu Dhabi by a drone-and-missile launched by the Houthis. Furthermore, several similar attacks targeted the Gulf country subsequently.

The US military helped shoot down two Houthi missiles which were aimed at an airbase exterior the Emirati capital. It announced that it would utilize demolisher and fighter jets to the UAE to show support for Abu Dhabi.

Biden during a call with King Salman lauded the US president for standing with the kingdom and meeting its defensive needs.

His Majesty cited the kingdom’s support to efforts by the United States to stop Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. It stressed the need to work together to counter the weakening activities of Iran’s proxies in the region, SPA said. The Custodian of  Two Holy Mosques declared that the kingdom is committed to deescalating tensions in the region.

Biden swore to put human rights at the focus of US foreign policy. He has faced domestic pressure to push Saudi Arabia on its rights record. Pledge by Biden has to help broker an end to the underway Yemen dispute.

Pledge by Biden to revise Washington’s relationship with Riyadh among growing anger and Democrats. White House spokesperson said Biden would conduct counterpart engagements with Saudi Arabia.

The White House Call:
The White House readout of a call between Biden and King Salman did not mention anything on human rights between the two leaders. Biden and King Salman further reiterated the United States and Saudi Arabia’s obligation. It will ensure the stability of global energy supplies.

Biden blamed the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) for keeping back supply. He said that it was about gas production of the prices during a town hall previous October.

The two leaders  also discussed the talks in Vienna. The aim was to restore the Iran nuclear deal as said by the White House. It also described the pledge by Biden and the negotiations as an effort to reestablish constraints on Iran’s nuclear program.
