why Reynolds wrote new album after his world turned upside down: 'I was reinventing myself'

Dan Reynolds was in unfamiliar territory at this time, as he was in a new city and going through a tough time with a divorce

There are several reasons why Imagine Dragons named their latest album Loom.

First of all, frontman Dan Reynolds liked the "ominous" sound of the title. Then there's the fact that Loom is the name of one of his favorite childhood video games.

But most importantly, Reynolds, 36, knows that the word represents the fact that life keeps going forward, whether we like it or not

My world was turned upside down. I had just moved to a brand new city. I was rediscovering myself. It was a very transformative time for me," Reynolds tells PEOPLE in a recent issue.

I don't really like change, but the sooner you accept the inevitability of change, the more peaceful life becomes.

Like Dragons' other work — including their seven-times platinum-winning 2012 debut album, Night Visions

Reynolds says the band’s latest effort is essentially their “journal entries” from the past few years

During that time, he moved from Las Vegas to Los Angeles — and ended his marriage to singer Aja Volkman, whom he married in 2011

with whom he has daughters Arrow ( 11), Gia and Coco ( 7), and son Valentin (4)

But M Reynolds has since found love with actress Minka Kelly
